Alan Marshall Short Story Award

The Alan Marshall Short Story Award is held annually in memory of the great Australian writer and former resident of Eltham, Alan Marshall AM. OBE. HON LL.D (1902-1984), whose most well-known books are the autobiographical, I Can Jump Puddles, This is the Grass and Pioneers and Painters. Afflicted with polio as a child, he dealt with the crippling effects with such courage and determination that his rich and full life became an example and inspiration to many.
The Alan Marshall Short Story Award was introduced in 1985 by the former Eltham Shire Council and now run by Nillumbik Shire Council. Writers Australia-wide are welcomed to enter.
