Eastern Writers Group Biggest Little Short Story Competition
The Eastern Writers Group was founded in 1938 to give writers a chance to meet other writers and to discuss their works in progress. ‘Eastern’ refers to the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, but membership is not restricted to that area.
In 1997, Group President Joy Dettman and Secretary Brian Le Marquand devised a short story competition to raise funds to pay for group activities, such as the publication of anthologies. The rules were simple, the main one being that stories had to be 500 words or less. They called it the ‘Biggest Little Short Story Competition.’
