Parking, Public Transport, and Taylor Swift - John Pabon
Sustainability expert John Pabon grew up in southern California and has lived all over the world, but now resides in Melbourne and happened to be catching public transport into the CBD on Saturday night along with plenty of Swifties.
“It doesn’t even make sense with the way things are set up, the way public transport is and the stress of trying to get out of there, it doesn’t even make sense to drive a car [to the MCG],” he said.
He has a rather bleak explanation as to why Americans are confused by the parking situation: about 100 years ago, the automobile lobby in the US suggested highways were more efficient than public transport.
With the exception of major cities like New York City or Boston, public transport infrastructure in the US isn’t great, so people are forced to drive cars, making so it a rather car-centric country, he told TND.
